In April 1977, EVVA became the first Austrian company to be granted a patent for the GPI key and lock combination. The complex technology – extreme zig zag profile, overlapping plug ribs, hardened steel pins in the plug, high levels of scanning and unlocking protection, fire retardant characteristics – makes unauthorised copying almost impossible.
